How to get the best newborn photos of your newborn and what to avoid!
I am a Atlanta newborn photographer and I am located just outside of Atlanta. I have a natural light studio in Buford, GA. I am so excited to share my tips for photographing your own newborn! I think taking pictures throughout the year of your baby newborn is so important. Not only should you have those precious professional newborn photos but your own as well! The professional ones are different than the ones you will take on your own. One of the things that will stand out in your own photographs is the moments. And, this is where the magic happens. So I thought I would share with you some tips on taking the best newborn pictures. There are also several things to avoid.
Start Early: Start planning your newborn photo session early. The planning should start when you are pregnant. This is not something to leave until the last trimester! Once you have your baby things won’t be as easy to plan. You can be looking for newborn props, your outfit, and style of photography you like. You should also look for areas in your home with the best light for photographs. Also, start looking for your newborn photographer as soon as possible. I book up very early and most other qualified photographers do too. One of my favorite places to shop for newborn headbands and hats is etsy. There are tons of cute newborn sized hats and headbands on etsy. They are usually much prettier than the ones you can find in the stores.
Feed Your Baby: It is so important to feed your baby well before the session. It is also important to feed your baby often during the photo session as well. You will have plenty of time to get your baby on a schedule later. Now is the time to feed your baby on demand. As the saying goes, ” A full baby is a happy baby.”
Take Breaks: Photographing your own baby is no easy thing to do. You probably just got home from the hospital and are extremely tired. I have been there! Photographing your newborn baby may seem like the last thing you feel like doing. So keep the picture session short. Don’t feel like you have to capture everything at once. Take a break and rest, then come back and photograph your baby again. You will both feel much better after a break.
Don’t Forget Yourself: It is so easy to focus only on the baby, but don’t forget to get in a few pictures yourself. Hand the camera over to your spouse and have him snap a few photographs. You will be so thankful you have images of you and your newborn baby. Choose an outfit you will feel beautiful in. Make sure you hair and makeup are done. You will feel much prettier with a bit of makeup and look less sleep deprived:) I always suggest flowing tops or maxi dresses for new moms. I love this one , this one and this one .
I hope these tips help you plan for your newborn session and don’t forget to take lots of pictures of your little newborn baby! He or she will be a toddler before you know it!
